Guwahati-Nameri NP-Sangsua/Gatoonga T.E.-Sivasagar-Kaziranga NP-Guwahati

(A seven day tour of Assam covering wildlife treks & rafting at Nameri NP, stays inside Assam tea gardens in heritage Tea bungalows, royal monuments of the mighty Ahoms, safaris at Kaziranga NP and cruises on the mighty Brahmaputra river along with ancient temple visits at Guwahati)

DAY 01: Guwahati airport-Nameri NP (05 hr):

Our tour manager will receive you upon your arrival at Guwahati airport. Later transfer to Nameri National park near western Arunachal border. It is a Project Tiger contiguous with Pakke Tiger Reserve and Eagle nest WLS of Western Arunachal.

Nameri National Park is the home to the near extinct White Winged Wood-Duck. Besides, the park abounds in Elephants, Tiger, Leopards, Sambar, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Gaur, Wild Dogs and a variety of birds including four species of Hornbill.

Overnight at Eco Camp, a camp resort.

DAY 02: Nameri NP-Sangsua/Gatoonga T.E (03 & a 1/2 hr):

Early morning enjoy this park on foot. Later gear up for an inflattable rubber dinghy raft ride on the sparkling Himalayan river Jiabhoroli which forms the western boundary to the park.

Later after lunch transfer to Sangsua/Gatoonga Tea Estate near Jorhat. On arrival check in at the heritage garden manager’s bungalow of the British Raj.

Unlike many tea producing nations in the world, the Tea Gardens in Assam are fairly big in size covering several hectares. Assam tea is known for its Black Teas-Orthodox and C.T.C.

DAY 03: Sangsua/Gatoonga T.E-Sivasagar(90 min.)- Sangsua/Gatoonga T.E.:

Full day excursion to Sivasagar, the power centre of the mighty Ahoms who ruled Greater Assam nearly 6 centuries. The Tai(or Thai) Ahoms belonging to the Shan race migrated to Assam from the Yunan province of China in 1228 A.D. and were in power till Assam fell to the British in 1826 A.D.. This Ahom rule is the golden era of Assam history where Assam witnessed a high level of civilization. The Ahoms were successful in repulsing as many as 18 attacks from the Mughal rulers and thus prevented the Muslim expansion to China and the South East Asia. Sivasagar is dotted with wonderful Ahom monuments reflecting a powerful empire.

We start off with Charaideo Maidam(burial vaults where Tai Ahom royals were buried in mounds),Gargaon Palace, Shiva Dol (temple),massive Sivasagar and Joysagar Water tanks, Ranghar (Amphitheatre) and Talatal ghar (palace having underground storey and tunnels connecting Gargaon Palace some 16 km away and Dikhow river 3 km away now kept blocked).

Later return to Sangsua/Gatoonga T.E. in the afternoon.

DAY 04: Sangsua /Gatoonga T.E.-Kaziranga NP (02 hr):

Early morning visit a garden factory. If tea plucking and the factory works go on we shall take the assistance of a garden executive to explain us the method of tea plucking or tea processing to have a firsthand experience of how that ‘cup that cheers’ is manufactured.

Later transfer to Project Tiger Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home to the endangered one horned rhinoceros (2048 rhinos as per 2009 census). Besides, the park has several species of mammals and birds. The park has 70% of the world population of the Asiatic Water Buffalos and the Eastern Swamp Deer. The Park has the highest density of the endangered Royal Bengal Tigers in India with a number of 32 tigers per 100 against 20 in Corbet NP as per a census report in April,2010. Amongst birds, the park has 25 globally threatened bird species.

After check in at hotel have lunch. Later we move out for a jeep safari in the central range of the park.

Overnight at Wild Grass Resort/ Bonhabi Resort.

DAY 05: Kaziranga NP:

Full day at Kaziranga National Park.We start off early in the morning for an elephant safari for 01 hr in the central range of the park. Later back for breakfast. Afterwards jeep safari in the Central/ Eastern range of the park.

Again after lunch we take up another jeep safari this time covering the western range of the park.

Overnight at Wild Grass Resort/ Bonhabi Resort.

DAY 06: Kaziranga NP-Guwahati (04 hr):

Transfer to Guwahati. Upon arrival have lunch. Later have some sightseeing at Guwahati including the famed ancient Shakti temple of Kamakhya and the ancient temple of nine planets Navagraha temple. Afterwards enjoy a cruise on the mighty river Brahmaputra. During the cruise we shall visit Umananda temple, a medieval Shiva temple belonging to the Ahom era located on peacock isle.

Overnight at Brahmaputra Jungle Resort/ hotel Nakshatra(3*).

DAY 07: Guwahati airport transfer:

Transfer to Guwahati airport on time for your flight.
